Pricing intelligence

A price you can defend, calculated from the cost you actually paid.

Purchase cost, shipping, duty, eBay fees and your target margin, in one calculation you can read. You get a floor, a target and a ceiling — and a list of what needs attention.

Unlike most repricing tools, which start from the market and work backwards — which is how listings end up below cost — this starts from the cost side: what you paid, what shipping and duty added, what eBay takes in fees, and the margin you want. Only then does it look at the market, taking the second-cheapest comparable offer rather than the cheapest: usually a listing you should not compare against.

The task list that decides the day.

Each row is one listing: what it sells for now, the floor it must not go below, the price the calculation recommends and what the market asks. Urgent work sorts to the top.

The Product Pricing screen: the price task list, each row with current price, minimum price, recommended price and market price, sorted by priority.
Product Pricing — current, floor, recommendation and market on one row.

What the price advice gives you.

  • Three numbers, not one — Every listing gets a floor below which the margin is gone, a target that hits your profit, and an upper bound. You decide inside that range — the advice never pretends to know better than you.
  • A priority, so you know where to start — Listings are ranked by urgency. A cost move of twenty percent or more is critical; five percent is a quiet warning. You work down the list instead of guessing where to look.
  • Endings that sell — Recommendations carry charm endings at .40 and .90, or undercut endings at .30 and .80 when the goal is to sit below a specific competitor. The choice follows the intent, not a fixed rule.

The calculation, shown rather than hidden.

The recommended price starts from what the item costs you, adds the fixed costs, and builds in the fees and the margin you want. Short as a formula; what makes it trustworthy is that every term is a value you can see and change.

The percentage fees are eBay's, by category — roughly seven percent for devices, twelve for accessories, five for reduced condition — plus the payment fee and, below ten euros, a small fixed fee. A shop subscription is spread across your listings, so each one carries its share.

Where an ad rate is not known, the model assumes eleven percent rather than zero. It would rather show a price that is too careful than one that is too pretty.

How the market side is measured.

  • Second-cheapest, not cheapest — The reference is the second-cheapest comparable offer from your home country, shipping included. One desperate seller cannot pull your price down.
  • Confirmed by you — You get a match proposal with a confidence score, and anything below the threshold is not used at all. Your verdict always wins.
  • Your home market — You can limit competition to the country you sell from, so an offer you would never compete with does not become your benchmark.
  • Never older than a day — The offers you compare against are never more than a day old — and the price view only uses matches you confirmed.

Questions, answered

Does 40thieves change my prices on eBay automatically?

No. It calculates, ranks and explains. Applying a price is one action per listing — yours. For thirty minutes after a change, the price you set wins over the marketplace's own lagging answer.

What if a listing has several variations at different prices?

It refuses to revise and tells you to change it on eBay. Choosing one of several prices for you would be a guess with your money.

Do I have to use the recommended price?

No. Floor, target and ceiling are a range. Sellers who know their market take the floor for slow movers and the ceiling for proven ones — the point is that the floor is calculated, so you know what it protects.

How often are supplier prices and competitor offers updated?

Supplier prices refresh twice a day. Competitor offers are cached for twenty-four hours and can be re-scanned. The recommendation is recalculated when you ask for it.
